LA PLATA, Md. (September 27, 2007) The Charles County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

FUGITIVE ARRESTED: On Sept. 26 at 11:35 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 4300 block of Smallwood Church Road in Indian Head for a citizen’s report of a wanted person, Walter Anthony Glista, 28, of Indian Head, at the residence. Officers arrived and were told Glista was hiding in the basement. Officers found a locked door in the basement and after several commands to open the door went unanswered, officers forced it open and a K9 team began searching the room. They found Glista hiding in a closed-framed bed but he refused to come out. The K9 was deployed and Glista was arrested without further incident. He was charged with second-degree burglary and theft valued at more than $500 and was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. ARMED ROBBERY: On Sept. 26 at 10:47 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed a 19-year-old man was in his car parked on Red Lion Place in Waldorf when three male suspects approached him. One of the suspects entered the vehicle, brandished a handgun and, with the help of the other suspects, stole the victim’s wallet, cell phone and an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects then assaulted the victim, who put his car in drive and attempted to escape. With the armed suspect still in the car, the victim drove to Rooks Head Place a short distance away and struck a parked car and several curbs. The airbags deployed, causing the gun to discharge. The bullet struck the passenger side window, the car came to a stop and the suspect fled. The suspects are described as black males. One is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He was wearing a white tank top and blue jeans and has dreadlock-style hair. Another suspect is 5 feet 7 inches tall and was weighs 160 pounds. He was wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans and has shoulder length dreadlock-style hair. The other suspect is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. He was wearing a long white T-shirt. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Civista Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services personnel. POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA: On Sept. 25 at 2:10 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a citizen’s report of a vehicle whose occupants were smoking drugs and driving recklessly. The citizen followed the vehicle to a parking lot off of the 3300 block of Crain Highway and blocked the vehicle from leaving. When officers arrived, a K9 team conducted an exterior scan of the vehicle and the K9 indicated the presence of drugs inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search, officers discovered crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroine and oxycotin. The occupants of the vehicle, Kelli Marie Flanagan-Mead, 36, of Hughesville and Vanessa Bechas Vanscyoc, 48, of Adamstown, Md., were charged with possession of the drugs and drug paraphernalia. They were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner. Officer J. Freeman investigated.

POSSESSION OF A HANDGUN: On Sept. 23 at 2:01 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s Officer A. Celia stopped a Toyota Camry being operated without headlights on Crain Highway near VFW Road in Waldorf. Officer Celia discovered the driver, Blake Bernard Washington, 18, of Washington, D.C., was driving with a suspended license. Bernard was arrested for the traffic violation and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun under the front passenger seat. Further investigation revealed the handgun had been purchased illegally. Bernard was charged with possession of a handgun in a vehicle, driving without headlights and driving with a suspended license. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

ASSAULT: On Sept. 11 at 7:45 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton for the report of two women being treated for stab wounds they suffered during a fight which occurred earlier in the evening in Waldorf. Investigation revealed the two women and a witness were arguing with three other women, one of whom brandished a knife and cut the two victims who later sought treatment at the hospital. The assault was part of an ongoing dispute between the two groups of women. The other three women involved in the fight were identified and charged on Sept. 18. Natasha Lashay Bacote, 22, of Clinton, who used the knife during the assault, was charged with two counts each of first- and second-degree assault. Shanna Nicole Baltimore, 22, of Oxon Hill was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and affray. Sharday Jean Bethea, 22, of Waldorf was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. The two victims, who initiated the fight which led to the stabbing, will also be charged with assault. They are a 21-year-old Waldorf woman and a 23-year-old Forestville woman. Det. B.
