MSP Reports for St. Mary's County


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (November 5, 2007) - The Leonardtown Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ILLEGAL DRUGS, SUSPENDED LICENSE: On Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 1:25 pm, Aaron Franklin Carpenter, 36, of Brandywine was arrested by TFC M. Laney for Possession of Cocaine, possession of CDS paraphernalia and Driving on a Suspended License. Mr. Carpenter was stopped on Route 242, south of Oakley Road in Avenue for exceeding the posted speed limit. A MVA check revealed Mr. Carpenter's driving privilege is suspended. Mr. Carpenter was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest revealed Mr. Carpenter was in possession of cocaine and CDS paraphernalia and was charged accordingly. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond hearing.

BURGLARY: On Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 8:31 pm, Tpr. D. Brill responded to a reported Burglary in the 26000 block of Queen Tree Road in Mechanicsville. The male and female complainants advised unknown suspect(s) broke into their residence after they left for work at 6:30 am. Multiple bottle of prescription medications were stolen from the residence in addition to a bottle of Absolute Vodka and Crown Royal. Taken from the residence were 31 pieces of jewelry to include numerous bracelets, necklaces and rope/chains in addition to US currency, including 19 collector bills of various denominations, 82 collector coins, a mink stole, a DeWalt 14 volt cordless drill and a ½" DeWalt 120 volt drill. Total estimated value of items stolen is $12,000.00. The investigation continues.

ASSAULT: On Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 8:55 pm, James Calvin Morgan, 43, of Lexington Park was arrested by TFC M. Moore for Assault 2nd Degree. TFC M. Moore responded to a reported disturbance in the area of Great Mills Road and N. Shangri La Drive in Lexington Park. Upon arrival contact was made with the female victim who advised she had been assaulted by Mr. Morgan. During the course of the investigation both parties were interviewed and Mr. Morgan was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention where he was detained pending a bond review.

DWI, DUI, ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Friday, November 2, 2007 at 3:09 am, Tpr. C. Evans initiated a traffic stop on a silver Ford Focus on Route 4 in the area of Brown Road in Leonardtown for failing to drive in a single lane. Upon contact with the driver, Jennifer Marie Bryson, 21, of Mechanicsville, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from her breath. During the course of the traffic stop, Ms. Bryson was arrested for DWI/DUI. A search incident to arrest revealed Ms. Bryson was in possession of a Schedule II prescription medication not prescribed to her. Additionally, she was also in possession of a small baggie of Marijuana and a multi colored glass CDS smoking device. Ms. Bryson was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where she was charged accordingly and detained pending a bond review.

DWI, DUI, ILLEGAL DRUGS: On Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 8:15 pm, Brian Deshield Hopewell, 49, of Tall Timbers was arrested by TFC E. Evans on Great Mills Road at Midway Drive in Lexington Park for DUI/DWI and possession of Cocaine. Mr. Hopewell was operating a black Dodge Dakota when he was stopped by TFC E. Evans for failing to drive right of center. During the course of the traffic stop, contact was made with Mr. Hopewell, an odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitting from his breath. A small amount of Cocaine was found on his person. Mr. Hopewell was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was detained pending a bond hearing.

WARRANT ARREST: On Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 2:06 am, Kirk Terrell Crafton, 39, of Ridge was arrested by Tpr. M. Adams on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13110) for Failing to Appear in District Court in Leonardtown on October 23, 2007. The original charge was DWI. Mr. Crafton was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review.

WARRANT ARREST: On Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 11:30 am, Robert Daniel Peterman, Jr., 30, of Mechanicsville was arrested by TFC R. Rezza on an outstanding Bench Warrant (T3-13117) for Failing to Follow Conditions of Probation which was issued on October 23, 2007. The original charge was for DWI. Mr. Peterman was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was held pending a bond review.
