MSP Reports for Charles County


LA PLATA, Md. (June 5, 2008) - The La Plata Barrack of the Maryland State Police (MSP) today released the following incident and arrest reports.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: On May 29, at approximately 9:55 p.m., Trooper B. Sorenson was on routine patrol southbound U.S. Route 301, north of St. Patrick’s Drive when he stopped Kenneth Joseph Washington, age 40, of La Plata, for a traffic violation. A search revealed a rolled cigarette containing suspected marijuana. Washington was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

THEFT: On June 1, at approximately 3:48 p.m., Trooper B. Sorenson was dispatched to Best Buy in reference to a theft and made contact with Trooper K. Hunt. Trooper Hunt advised Trooper Sorenson that Coty Alan Himmelheber, age 18, of Callaway, was caught on surveillance video for theft. Himmelheber was charged with theft less that $100.

CONCEALED DEADLY WEAPON: On June 2, at approximately 10:59 p.m., Trooper R. Wilt was on routine patrol westbound Maryland Route 225 at Quailwood Drive when he stopped Brian Lee Edwards, age 23, of Pomfret, for a traffic violation. A search of the vehicle revealed brass knuckles. Edwards was charged with DUI and concealed deadly weapon.

DUI, VEHICLE THEFT: LEAVING SCENE OF ACCIDENT: On June 3, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Trooper K. Hunt was on routine patrol in the area of U.S. Route 301 and Plaza Drive when a simulcast came out for a hit and run. The vehicle was found on Billingsley Road and Piney Church Road with the driver, Brendan Douglas Carr, age 25, of Bryantown, still in the vehicle. Trooper Hunt smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and Carr was placed under arrest. Carr was charged with DUI, theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $500 and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision.
