Three Teens Injured When BMW Slams Into Utility Pole


Prince Frederick, Md. (June 23, 2008)—Three teens were sent to area hospitals, one with life-threatening injuries, after the 1995 BMW they were riding in slammed into a utility pole in St. Leonard on Monday, June 16 just after 6:00 p.m.

The police investigation determined the vehicle was traveling north on Broomes Island Road just north of Mackall Road. The BMW skidded off of the roadway and struck a utility pole at the driver's side door.

The driver of the BMW was identified as Shannon Marie Pearson, age 16 of St. Leonard. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital. She was later transferred to the Washington Hospital Center MedStar unit. Pearson was listed in critical condition at MedStar.

Two passengers of the BMW, Jennifer Lynn Channell, age 16 of St. Leonard, and Courtney Lynn Williams, age 16 of Port Republic, were both transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash is being handled by Cpl. James Wahlgren of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
