Two Dead in Lexington Park Single Vehicle Accident

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 30, 2008)—Two people are dead and three others were sent to area hospitals on Saturday after a single vehicle accident on Bay Forest Road in Lexington Park. Louis Felipe Moya Martinez, age 34 of Waldorf, and Christina Garcia Chavez, age 22 of Lexington Park, both passengers in the vehicle, were declared deceased on the scene.

Police say that on Saturday around 7:10 p.m., a 1998 Ford F150 pickup, operated by Eddi G. Barrientos Ibanez, was traveling west on Bay Forest Road at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to negotiate a left hand turn and exited the west side of the roadway sliding sideways into a large tree. The vehicle continued on, striking another tree head-on and eventually coming to rest in the roadway.

Zaydia Garcia Chavel, age 18 of Waldorf, and Hose Esuin Leon Guerra, age 28 of Waldorf, were flown to Prince George's Shock Trauma and are listed in stable condition.

The driver, Ibanez, currently in the custody of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office, was flown to Prince George's for observation of minor injuries.

Police say alcohol and speed are contributing factors in the accident.

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office crash team is continuing the investigation.
