SMCM Student from Leonardtown Inducted into ODK Honor Society

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. (Dec. 4, 2008) - St. Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM) junior Mariel Saez, of Leonardtown, Maryland, was one of 48 students inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), a national leadership honor society that recognizes and promotes academic excellence, leadership abilities, and exemplary character.

Student members must rank in the upper 35 percent of their school and must show leadership in at least one of five areas: scholarship; athletics; campus or community service, social or religious activities, and campus government; journalism, speech, and the mass media; and creative and performing arts.

"Our student members are hard working, recognized student leaders on campus" according to associate dean of students and ODK faculty secretary, Joanne Goldwater. "Their induction into ODK is a mark of high distinction. The leadership skills that they have honed will be ones that they will continue to use long after they graduate from SMCM. I am very proud of the academic, co-curricular, and volunteer accomplishments of our ODK members."
