Charles County Sheriff's Reports

LA PLATA, Md. (March 3, 2013)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

TEENAGER TO BE CHARGED WITH MAKING THREATS AND DISTURBING ACTIVITIES AT SCHOOL: The Charles County Sheriff's Office will be charging a 14-year-old girl today with making threats against teachers and students at North Point High School. Earlier this week, investigators received a tip that a video had surfaced on the Internet showing an unknown girl making threats against specific teachers and students. Cpl. C. Cusmano - the school resource officer - and Det. C. Gass of the Criminal Investigations Division took immediate action and launched an investigation. Working with school administrators and using investigative tools, the teen was subsequently identified as a girl who formerly attended classes at North Point. Officers and staff contacted the parents of each student named in the video and notified the teachers who were identified. The girl will be charged with making threats and disturbing school activities.

DEATH INVESTIGATION: On March 2 at 9:23 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the indoor shooting range at The St. Charles Sportsman's Club, 4045 Renner Road, Waldorf, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Patrick Allen Richards, 61, of Hughesville, suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation showed Richards was at the range to fire his personal firearm. While at the range, his gun discharged, striking him one time in the upper body. There were no signs of foul play and the incident is being investigated as an accident. Det. B. Buchanan of the Criminal Investigations Division is continuing the investigation.
