Department of Emergency Services & Technology to Utilize CodeRed Emergency Notification System

The St Mary’s County Department of Emergency Services & Technology will utilize the CodeRed Emergency Notification System on August 9, at approximately 11:00 a.m. to call the entire community. The calls will start at 11:00 a.m. and will continue until the entire database has been attempted.

The Department of Emergency Services & Technology recommends everyone opt in to the CodeRed Weather Warning system and also suggests all individuals and businesses to take time and visit the website to add contact information. This information should include cellular phones and other non-traditional phones as well as email and text addresses (for use by the CodeRed system).

Others who should register include businesses, individuals with unlisted phone numbers and those who have recently changed their phone number. Also, anyone who uses a cellular phone exclusively or have VoIP phones (such as Vonage) as their primary numbers.

The Department of Emergency Services & Technology urges citizens to log onto the St Mary’s County website at http://www.stmarysmd.com and follow the CodeRed link at the bottom of the page. Those without Internet access may call 301-475-4200 ext.2150 and leave a message with their contact information. Required information includes a physical street address (no P.O. boxes) for location purposes and a primary phone number. Additional phone numbers, email and text addresses may also be entered.

Wildewood Parkway Pipe Replacement Project to Begin in August

The St. Mary’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation will begin a pipe replacement project along Wildewood Parkway on or about the week of August 5, 2013.

Improvements will consist of the removal and replacement of the existing culverts, which cross the roadway between Wildewood Boulevard and Holly Hill Lane, and the relocation of underground utilities adjacent to the roadway.

During the project, residents can expect temporary road closures of Wildewood Parkway, between the intersections of Wildewood Boulevard and Holly Hill Lane. A signed detour route is planned around the construction area, which will extend from Smoke Hill Road to Cottonwood Parkway to Airport Road, MD Route 235, and Wildewood Boulevard. Residents may also experience some construction noise in the area during daylight hours. The project is expected to take 15 days to complete depending on weather conditions.

Interactive Murder Mystery Dinner to Benefit County Museums

The Friends of the St. Clement’s Island and Piney Point Museums will present “Murder at the Class Reunion,” an interactive murder mystery dinner, on Friday, September 6, at Olde Breton Inn in Leonardtown. This madcap fundraiser will help support programs, projects, exhibits and matching grants for the museums and historic sites of the St. Mary’s County Museum Division.

“Murder at the Class Reunion” will be take place in the imaginary gymnasium of Hoboken High School (Olde Breton Inn) and follow Daphne DiMarco (played by Kim Cullins) during her 20-year class reunion. There will be old friends, old flames and new drama as the reunion culminates in murder! Guests willing to participate will be offered scripts and props and are encouraged to portray their characters with over-the-top performances. These unrehearsed and spontaneous performances provide hilarious entertainment for all – and, the murderer could be YOU! Be sure to wear your Hoboken High school colors – green and white!

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for hors d’oeuvres and cocktails at the cash bar. At 7 p.m. an auction of very special treasures donated by local merchants and Friends members will be conducted by the lively and entertaining auctioneer, A. J. Bussler. In addition, a silent auction with art, jewelry, vacation getaways, services and other offerings, will go on throughout the evening. A delicious buffet dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. with the murder mystery performance to follow. Coffee, dessert and crime solving will conclude the evening of fun.

Reservations must be made and paid for in advance. The cost is $65 for Friends members and $70 for the general public. MasterCard, Visa and checks are accepted. Seating is on a first come, first served basis but groups of eight may reserve a table in advance.

The Friends of St. Clement’s Island and Piney Point Museums is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to financially support the historical interpretation, education programs and special needs of the sites and museums, managed by the Museum Division of St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation and Parks. Legislative Proposals Now Being Accepted

The Board of County Commissioners for St. Mary’s County is now accepting proposals from the public for the development of the Board’s 2014 Legislative Package. BOCC approved proposals will be forwarded to the St. Mary’s County Delegation to the Maryland General Assembly. Only proposals specific to St. Mary’s County can be considered.

Citizens are asked to send written comments and suggestions to George R. Sparling, County Attorney, P.O. Box 653, 41770 Baldridge Street, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650. The deadline for submissions is October 4, 2013.

The Board of County Commissioners will review legislative proposals at a legislative workshop, during their regular business meeting, on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. The Commissioners will hold a joint public meeting with the St. Mary’s County Delegation on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room inside the Chesapeake Building. Commissioners are tentatively scheduled to discuss and vote on the legislative proposals during their business meeting on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.

MetCom to hold Informational Meeting

Customers can learn about water meter installation process

The St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission will hold an informational meeting regarding water meter installations on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, 46900 Shangri La Drive, Lexington Park, Maryland.

Customers who attend the meeting can review the nature of the work in, on and around their property. Some installations will require excavation and an easement will be required. Easements must be signed by all property owners in the presence of a Notary Public. Notaries will also be in attendance for this purpose.
