Man Succumbs to Injuries from March 4 Crash

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (March 10, 2016)—Police today announced that a man who sustained life threatening injuries in a March 4 crash recently passed away. On Sunday, March 6, at 4:00 pm, Brian Daniel Pilkerton, 18, of Mechanicsville, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced brain dead.

The crash occurred on Friday, March 4, at 9:54 am, on Route 5 south of Harpers Corner Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Acura, driven Mr. Pilkerton, was attempting to enter Route 5 from a private driveway. The Acura failed to yield to oncoming traffic and a 2000 Nissan, driven by Anne Marie Kearney , 47, of Brandywine, collided into the driver's side of the Acura.

A request for Maryland State Police Aviation Command was made, however the helicopters were down due to weather conditions. Mr. Pilkerton was transported by ambulance to Prince George's Shock Trauma. Trooper medics from Aviation Command accompanied the ambulance crew to provide medical care.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Crash Team responded and assumed the investigation. The collision is still currently under investigation by Corporal J. Zimmerman, and driver error appears to be a factor.
