St. Mary's County Police Report for July 10, 2004


Sheriff's Office Deputy W. Daniel Ray responded to assist Narcotics Officers while a Search and Seizure Warrant was being served on a Lexington Park residence. Suspect Eugene Oliver Curtis Sr. was located inside the residence. A computer check revealed an open warrant and he was placed under arrest. Suspect Curtis Sr. was wanted for failing to appear in the District Court. He is currently being held on $3,500.00 bond.

Dfc. John W. Cusic responded to a motor vehicle accident on Piney Point Road in the area of Tall Timbers and found that the vehicle operator had fled. The operator, a 17 year old female, was located and found to be intoxicated. She was transported to St. Mary's Hospital and charged with Driving while Intoxicated. She will await further charges and a hearing before the Juvenile Master.

Deputy Michael R. Worrey responded to a theft of motor vehicle call at the California WaWa Store. After getting a description of the vehicle, responding Deputies located the vehicle. A perimeter was established and Sheriff's Office K-9 Officer J. Frank Fowler responded with his K-9 partner, Sleuber. A K-9 track had begun and led directly to a residence in a nearby trailer park. Deputies made contact with the occupants of that trailer and a male subject was interviewed. He gave a name that was false and his identity was confirmed with the aid of his tattoos. It was found that the Subject, James Thomas Jones was wanted through the State of Oklahoma for a burglary related offense. He was arrested and charged with Theft under $500 and Theft over $500. He will be extradite to the State of Oklahoma upon disposition of his new Maryland charges.

Sheriff's Office Deputies cleared a call at a local Valley Lee bar and as they left the area a vehicle being driven by Suspect Stanley Ignatius Armstrong crossed the center line and nearly struck the marked Police unit head-on. Dfc. W. Daniel Ray stopped the vehicle on Route 249 and Lillian Lane. The Suspect displayed numerous outward signs of intoxication and although he began to take the roadside tests, he abruptly refused and was placed under arrest. The Suspect resisted and Deputies assisted Dfc. Ray in gaining control of him. He was transported to the Detention Center where his disorderly actions continued.

Sex Offender Arrested: On 7-8-04 Deputy Robert Steward arrested James Earl Berry, age 32, no fixed address on an outstanding warrant. Investigation revealed that James Berry is a registered sex offender in St.Marys County. As of July 5, 2004 Mr. Berry failed to advise the Sheriffs Office that he had changed his address (condition of being a sex offender). Mr. Berry was arrested without incident and transported to the Detention Center, awaiting a bond review.

Burglary Suspect Arrested: On 7-8-04 Deputy Robert Steward arrested Lee Xavier Robinson, age 40, Lexington Park, Maryland, on an outstanding warrant for Burglary and Theft. Investigation revealed that on June 18, 2004 a Grand Jury Indictment was received charging Mr. Robinson with 16 counts of Burglary and Theft. Each of the burglaries occurred in St. Marys County and was committed on business establishments. Mr. Robinson was arrested and is at the Detention Center awaiting a bond review.

Criminal Summons Service: On 7-9-04 Dfc David Yingling served Joseph Dwight Young, age 32, Hollywood,Maryland, with a Criminal Summons charging him with Malicious Destruction of Property. Investigation revealed that on June 5, 2004 Mr. Young did intently scratch the victims vehicle causing damage with an approximate loss of $1000.00.

Criminal Summons Service: On 7-9-04 Dfc Randy Wood served Deborah Lynn Quade, age 45, Loveville, Maryland, with a Criminal Summons charging her with Uttering a Bad Check. Investigation revealed that on May 13, 2004 Ms. Quade did knowingly utter a check with insignificant funds on the drawn account.

Criminal Summons Service: On 7-9-04 Dfc David Corcoran served Lewis Steven Tayman, age 34, Clements, Maryland, charging him with 2 counts of Assault. 1 Count Child Abuse, and 1 Count Resisting Arrest. Investigation revealed that on June 24, 2004 States Attorney Theodore P. Weiner filed Criminal Information charging Mr. Tayman with the listed charges.

Violation of a Protective Order: On 7-9-04 Dfc Robert A. Russell arrested Shawn Wayne Miller, age 26, Lexington Park, Maryland, charging him with Violation of a Protective Order. Investigation revealed that Mr. Miller entered the victims place of employment in violation of the Domestic Order. Mr. Miller was arrested without incident and transported to the Detention Center and is awaiting bond review.
