Charles County Sheriff's Officer Killed in Motorcycle Accident

On April 11 at 4:18 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to Smallwood Drive West near St. Nicholas Drive in Waldorf for the report of a motorcycle crash. Upon arrival, officers found the driver of the motorcycle, Cpl. Paul Morgan of the Charles County Sheriff's Office, suffering from massive head injuries. Cpl. Morgan was transported by ambulance to Southern Maryland Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead. Preliminary investigation has revealed Cpl. Morgan was off-duty traveling westbound on Smallwood Drive West on his personal Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck a curb, lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle. The Charles County Sheriff's Office Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the crash.

Cpl. Morgan was an 18-and-a-half year veteran of the Charles County Sheriff's Office. He was 46 years old and a resident of Waldorf. He was a member of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators.

"All of us here at the Charles County Sheriff's Office are deeply saddened by the loss of Paul Morgan. He was a dedicated police officer who served our community with honor for nearly 19 years. We will remember him always for his service, but more importantly for his friendship and compassion. Not only did he serve Charles County as a law enforcement officer, but he participated in many of our community outreach programs as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul's wife, his children and all of his family," said Charles County Sheriff Frederick E. Davis.
