Dog Dispute Leads to Shotgun Confrontation


On 05/12/05 Deputy Shawn Cathcart and DFC Michael Labanowski and members of the Sheriff's Office responded to White Neck Road for a reported assault. The investigation revealed that Matthew Oliver, 39 of Bushwood, became involved in an argument with Maurice Stoney about Stoney's dog coming onto his property and attacking his dog. Following the argument Oliver returned to his residence and obtained a shotgun, he then fired a shot in the direction of Maurice Stoney and Harlan Blair. Oliver was arrested and charged with 2 counts of 1st degree assault and 2 counts of reckless endangerment and one count of assault based on race, color, religious beliefs and national origin.
