Past Week Sees 5 Drug Arrests in Calvert


On May 11th, 2005 at7:30 pm, Cpl Bomgardner responded to the 300 block of Geronimo Trail Lusby, Md. for a reported Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) violation. He met with the complainant who said her nephew had been smoking suspected marijuana in the home. Cpl. Bomgardner made contact with the juvenile and found him to be in possession of suspected marijuana and a make-shift smoking device. The juvenile was placed under arrest and transported to the Sheriffs Office where he was charged with Possession of CDS and Possession of Paraphernalia on a Youth Report. He was released to his Aunt.

On May 12th, 2005 at 11:50 pm, Deputy Carter conducted a traffic stop in the area of Rt 261 and Old Bayside Rd., Chesapeake Beach, Md. While speaking to the operator Deputy Carter detected the odor of burnt marijuana. A search of the vehicle revealed a non-conventional smoking device containing suspected marijuana. Karl E. Safchick, 19 years old of Chesapeake Beach, Md. was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with Possession of CDS and Possession of CDS paraphernalia.

On May 13th, 2005 at 12:53 am, Deputy Milam conducted a traffic stop on Md Rt 4 and Plum Point Road, Huntingtown, Md. Based on observations made during the stop, the operator Francis L. Bishop 2nd was placed under arrest for DUI. A search of the vehicle revealed a baggie containing a burnt hand rolled cigarette containing suspected marijuana. Bishop was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with DUI, Possession of CDS and Possession of CDS Paraphernalia.

On May 13th, 2005 at 1:33 am, Dfc Wilson conducted a traffic stop on 5th, Street in the area of Fredrick Ave, North Beach, Md. A consent search of the vehicle was obtained. Dfc Wilson found a clear plastic bag containing suspected cocaine, two straight edge razor blades, 17 (empty) clear small plastic zip lock baggies and a digital scale. Base on the search, Jeff D. Thorne Jr., 18 years old of North Beach, Md. was arrested and taken to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with Possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

On May 14th, 2005 at 3:15 am, Deputy Milam conducted a traffic stop on Md Rt 4 in the area of Parran Rd., St. Leonard, Md. Based on observations made during the stop, the driver, Keith M. Harrison, 46 years old of Richmond Va. was placed under arrest for DUI. A search incident to arrest revealed two small plastic baggie containing suspected cocaine, a hand rolled cigarette containing suspected marijuana and plastic straw containing suspected cocaine. A search of the passenger revealed a small plastic baggie containing suspected cocaine. Michael (NMN) Upshaw, 45 years old of Drexel Hill, Pa. was placed under arrest. Both men were transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. Harrison was charged with DUI, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Upshaw was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of CDS paraphernalia.
