Motorcycle Strikes School Crossing Guard; 8-YO Passenger, Guard & Driver Sent to Hospital


On May 18 at 3:33 p.m., a Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Connie Joe Simpson, 35, of Waldorf struck a parked Mercury Mountaineer at the entrance to Dr. Mudd Elementary School at 820 Stone Avenue in Waldorf. The motorcycle then struck a crossing guard. Simpson and her passenger, an 8-year-old-Waldorf boy, were flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to Washington Hospital Center and Children's Hospital Center, respectively, with non-life-threatening injuries. The crossing guard, Linda Ridenour Everly, 58, of La Plata, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center. Charges are pending. Officer R. Peters is investigating.
