St. Mary's Man Tries to Set House on Fire After Domestic Disturbance


In the early hours of June 17th, 2005, Patrol officers from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence located on Treetop Road, Lexington Park, St. Mary's County for the report of a domestic disturbance.

The investigation revealed an altercation had occurred between Shamal Weems and the female victim. Weems left the residence. A few hours later, Shamal Weems returned to the residence. An investigation by the St. Mary's Bureau of Criminal investigations and the State Fire Marshall’s Office revealed Shamal Weems took an ignitable liquid and spread the liquid on the stairs of the residence and along the front of the residence.

Weems attempt to light the residence failed.

Weems was located at his residence and taken to St. Mary's County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. Weems was charged with Attempted First Degree Arson, First Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Assault.
