Elderly Gentleman Succumbs to Illness While Driving; Passes at Hospital


On 06-24-05 at 1157 hours John Anthony Bowles, age 72 of Loveville, MD was north bound on MD Rte 247 (Loveville Road) 0.4 of a mile north of Bishop Road. He became severely ill and was unable to control his 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck. The vehicle exited the right roadside and drove into an open field. The vehicle traveled for over 1000 feet while striking two small wired fences and a ditch before coming to rest against a large cedar tree.

The driver was transported to St. Mary's Hospital by Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad personnel, where he was pronounced dead from the illness and not due to injuries sustained in the collision. A 7 year-old male, front-seat passenger was not injured as a result of the collision. The St. Mary's Sheriff's Office Fatal Collision Investigation Team uncovered no other contributing circumstances during the investigation.
