String of Burglaries & Robberies in Charles County


BURGLARY: Sometime between 2 a.m. and 6:20 a.m. Aug. 26, suspect(s) forced entry into Apehangers at 9100 Crain Highway in Bel Alton, stole an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-932-2222. Officer D. Sylvestre is investigating.

CITIZEN ARMED ROBBERY ARREST: On Aug. 22 at 12:53 a.m., Officer J. McKenzie conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on St. Charles Parkway near Billingsley Road in Waldorf. During the traffic stop, other officers responded to a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred on Barrington Drive in Waldorf. Officers who responded to that call obtained descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle. A lookout was broadcast and Officer McKenzie determined the vehicle and its occupants involved in the traffic stop matched the description of the robbery suspects. Officer McKenzie arrested the occupants of the vehicle. The robbery investigation revealed two men approached two 20-year-old Waldorf men sitting in a vehicle in the 800 block of Barrington Drive, brandished handguns and demanded money. The victims complied and the suspects fled in a vehicle. The victims were not injured and had been waiting in the vehicle for friends. Based on Officer McKenzie's traffic stop, the three suspects were identified as David Michael Whirley, Ricky Oneil Reynolds and Deshaun Anthony Brown, all 18 and of Fort Washington. They were charged with armed robbery, first degree assault and theft less than $100 and are being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending appearances before the District Court Commissioner.

COMMERCIAL ARMED ROBBERY: On Aug. 20 at 5:28 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to Next Car All Vehicle Rentals at 2270 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the armed robbery report. Investigation revealed two suspects entered the store and demanded money. One suspect went behind the counter and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the register while the other suspect, who was armed with a handgun, stood by the front door. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot. The clerk, a 20-year-old Upper Marlboro woman, was not injured. A K9 team responded and searched the area but did not locate the suspects. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-609-6499. Det. T. Miner is investigating.

ROBBERY ARREST: On Aug. 17 at 7 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to Loews Cineplex at 11115 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of a strong arm robbery. Investigation revealed an 18-year-old Waldorf man was behind the movie theater when three males forcibly robbed him of his property and fled the scene. Officers searched the area and located the three suspects in Lancaster. They were identified as Darren Demetrio Cooper, 20, of Waldorf, a 15-year-old La Plata boy and a 16-year-old Bryans Road boy. Cooper was charged with robbery and theft and is being held at the Charles County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond. The other boys were charged with robbery, theft and second degree assault and are being held at the Cheltenham Youth Facility. The incident appears to be drug related. Officer R.
