St. Mary's Conducts Sex Offender Initiative


On August 31, 2005, Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) conducted a Sex Offender initiative in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. The goal was to conduct spot checks on approximately 120 registered sex offenders residing in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. During the initiative it was determined that ten registered sex offenders were in violation for either, failure to re-register as a sex offender or for failing to provide a current address/employer as required by Maryland State Law (Further investigation and charges are pending). During the initiative, Wayne Curtis Jones, (47 years old) of Leonardtown, Maryland was arrested and charged with failure to provide current/change of address as required by law.

The St. Mary’s County Bureau of Criminal Investigations is an investigative team comprised of Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown, Maryland.
