Estranged Husband Threatens to Kill Wife; Assaults Officers


Dennis Martin Evans punched Deputy Moritz in the face inside his Attorney's Office. Two days later, he was arrested for violating a protective order and had to be subdued by using pepper spray.

On 09-05-05 BCI Detective Antonio Malaspina responded to a Charlotte Hall residence for a reported Harassment and Stalking. Investigation revealed the Victim was being continuously harassed and threatened by her estranged husband. Her husband, Dennis Martin Evans (age 37 of Charlotte Hall) had been contacting the Victim, threatening to kill her and members of her family. Patrol Officers from both the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack began a search for the Suspect who was allegedly armed with a handgun.

On 09-06-05 Suspect Evans was located at his Attorney's Lexington Park Office and when approached by Officers he assaulted Deputy Keith Moritz by striking him in the face with a closed fist. A struggle ensued inside the office and the Suspect was subdued with the assistance of a TASER. Suspect Evans was charged with Stalking, Harassment, Resisting Arrest and Assault. He was transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center and eventually released on his Personal Recognizance.

On 09-08-05 Detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations along with Patrol Officers from the Maryland State Police and St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to the Golden Beach Road area in an attempt to located Suspect Evans again related to a Violation of a Protective Order that was put in place after the original incident. Suspect Evans was located in the area and placed under arrest. He was placed into a vehicle where he attempted to kick out the front windshield. He was removed from the vehicle and placed into the rear of a marked Sheriff's Office Patrol vehicle and he proceeded to kick out the rear window of that vehicle. Officers attempted to remove him from that vehicle and he began kicking them. Officers utilized pepper spray to gain control of the Suspect and he was placed into custody. He remained violent and uncooperative throughout the arresting process and was turned over to the Corrections Officers. He is currently awaiting a bond review.

The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations is an investigative team comprised of Detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. The unit was established on July 1, 2003 and is based in Leonardtown, Maryland.
