Punk Flees Police; Smashes into Waldorf Home

On Nov. 3 at 12:34 a.m., Officer G. Barnhart conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 2400 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf.

After Officer Barnhart approached the driver, the driver fled in the vehicle toward Western Parkway. Police Communications Officers dispatched a lookout for the vehicle, which Officer C. Stufft observed fleeing toward Acton Lane. The vehicle turned onto Acton Lane and officers lost sight of it.

Shortly thereafter, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and struck an occupied residence on Tawny Drive.

The driver, a 26-year-old Mechanicsville man, sustained incapacitating injuries and was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Suburban Hospital Center in Bethesda. He was also found in to be in possession of suspected illegal drugs.

No one inside the residence was injured. A building inspector responded and determined the house was unsafe to occupy. The Red Cross made arrangements for the occupants for the night. Officer Barnhart is investigating.
