Drugs and Alcohol Play Part in Hit and Run


11/18/05 10:28 p.m. Police responded to a hit and run accident on MD Rt. 5 at Thomas Stone High School.

When they arrived on the scene, the occupants of the vehicle had fled on foot. The operator of the vehicle, William Robert Gardner III, 20 years, of Mechanicsville, was located at the CVS on MD Rt. 5 at St. Charles Parkway. Mr. Gardner was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

A search of his person incident to arrest revealed suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Gardner was incarcerated in the Charles County Detention Center pending a bond review.
