Drunk Runs Red Light; Passes Out


Drunk Driver passes out after running red traffic light. Police find drugs and weapon.

On Nov. 30 at 9:45 p.m., the Charles County Sheriff's office received a citizen's report of an intoxicated driver who had not stopped for a red light and nearly caused a crash. The citizen continued to follow the vehicle, which stopped at the intersection of Leonardtown and Prince Frederick roads in Hughesville. The driver of the vehicle had passed out.

Officer J. Walter responded to the intersection and identified the driver as John Robert Cole Jr., 25, of Hughesville. Investigation revealed Cole was intoxicated and was in possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a bowie-style knife. Cole was arrested and charged with carrying a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, driving while impaired, driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to display a license, failure to stop at red signal and failure to drive on right side of roadway. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
