Man Assaults Wife at Hotel Charles, Violates Protective Order

On Jan. 29 at 4:10 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to an apartment at Hotel Charles at 15110 Burnt Store Road in Hughesville for the report of a domestic assault. Investigation revealed a 47-year-old Hughesville man assaulted his wife, who had a protective order against him ordering him to stay away from her.

When Officer C. Clevenger began questioning the man, the man fled on foot and fell down a flight of stairs. Officer Clevenger ordered the man to stop but the man refused. He continued running and fled the building toward Leonardtown Road. After a brief foot chase, Officer Clevenger apprehended the man, who resisted arrest.

He was charged with second degree assault, violation of protective order and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. He was treated for minor injuries he sustained from the fall.
