ATTEMPTED MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT: On April 26 at 4 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 8000 block of Bowie Road in Nanjemoy for the attempted motor vehicle theft. Officers contacted the victim and obtained suspect information. Officer L. Payne stopped a suspicious subject matching the description given from the victim a short time later. He was identified as the person who attempted to steal the vehicle on Bowie Road. While conducting a search officers found a black metal pipe used as a smoking device for marijuana and a wallet in the suspect’s pocket. The wallet was found to be stolen. The suspect was identified as Howard Bernard Dent, 38, of Temple Hills. Dent was charged with theft less than $500, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center on $3,000 bond. Officer L. Payne investigated.

THEFT: On April 25 at 5:54 p.m., Officer J. Timko of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hecht’s located at 11120 Mall Circle in Waldorf for the report of a shoplifter in custody. Investigation revealed a 15-year-old Upper Marlboro girl concealed clothing from the store and attempted to leave without paying for the merchandise. A loss prevention officer stopped and detained her until Officer Timko’s arrival. Further investigation revealed she had also stolen clothing from Aeropostale, another store in the mall. The girl was charged with theft and released to her father.

RECOVERED VEHICLE: On April 23 at 7:59 p.m., Officer J. Timko responded to the 6000 block of Tapir Place in Waldorf for the report of an abandoned vehicle. Investigation revealed the vehicle, a 2005 Ford F-350, was stolen in Prince George’s County. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On April 23 at 7:21 p.m., Officer J. Timko responded to a residence in the 5500 block of Irish Lord Place in Waldorf for the report of property destruction. Sometime between 6 a.m. April 20 and 7 p.m. April 23, suspect(s) unscrewed two security lamp bulbs from a fixture on a backyard fence. The suspect(s) then threw the lamps over the fence, causing damage to the residence’s vinyl siding and screen door frame. The suspect(s) then entered the backyard and unscrewed a light bulb from a light fixture. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-7777.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY: On April 18 at 10:51 a.m., Officer J. Timko responded to a residence in the 2500 block of Hatteras Circle in Waldorf for the report of theft and property destruction. Sometime between 11:30 p.m. April 17 and 10:30 a.m. April 18, suspect(s) shattered the front passenger window of a 1995 Dodge Neon and stole a pink makeup bag from inside the vehicle.
