DRUG POSSESSION: On April 28 at 9:10 p.m., Officer A. Schwab attempted a traffic stop on a Ford Tempo in the 12600 block of Crain Highway in Newburg, but when the driver stopped he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officer Schwab apprehended the driver and identified him Russell James Holton, Jr., 42 of Newburg. Officers searched Holton’s vehicle and discovered 19 individually wrapped bags of crack cocaine with an estimated street value of $380. Holton was charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and driving while suspended. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. A 17 year-old La Plata boy was also in the vehicle and will be charged at a later date.

BURGLARY: On April 28 at 12:10 a.m., Officer D. Brady was flagged down in the parking lot of the La Plata Wawa by a citizen who advised that his business, Bill Green Racing Enterprise located at 5840 Race Car Place in La Plata was being burglarized. The victim told the officer he had arrived at his business and was confronted by two males who were standing in the doorway of the building. He then ran to the gas station to report the incident. Officers responded and discovered the front door of the business had been damaged and a side door had been left open. Cpl. S. Brown and his K-9 partner searched the business and no suspects were found. The suspects were described as two white males in their early 20s. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-932-2222. Officer D. Brady is investigating.

POLICE PURSUIT: On April 27 at 11:23 p.m., Officers W. Saunders and P. McPherson of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a suspected intoxicated driver at Stone Avenue and Middleton Lane in Waldorf. When the officers attempted to stop the tan Toyota Sienna minivan the driver sped away and officers pursued the vehicle until it left the roadway, striking a tree at the end of St. Charles Parkway. He exited the vehicle and officers pursued him on foot. Officers quickly apprehended the driver and identified him as Mercedez Cerano Montoya, 19, of Waldorf. Investigation revealed the minivan had been stolen from a restaurant in Waldorf. Montoya was charged with numerous traffic charges, theft of a motor vehicle and theft more than $500. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Officer W. Saunders investigated.

SHOPLIFTER: On April 19 at 3:43 p.m., Officers D. Walker and N. Walton of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to Safeway, located at 10 King Street in Waldorf, for the report of a shoplifter in custody. As the officers arrived, an employee advised the suspect was fleeing the scene. Officers apprehended him shortly thereafter. The suspect was identified as Darrell Javon Young, 18, of Waldorf. Investigation revealed he stole several DVDs. When a Safeway employee detained him once he exited the store, he dropped the DVDs and as the officers arrived he fled. Young was charged with theft of property valued at less than $500 and resisting arrest.
