Two Vehicle Accidents in Charles County


MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On July 18 at 9:59 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Mattawoman Creek Road and Chicamuxen Road in Marbury for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed the driver of a Jeep sport-utility vehicle, Angelica Renee Whiting, 20, of Waldorf, was traveling east on Mattawoman Creek Road when she took evasive action to avoid striking an animal, left the roadway and struck several trees. Whiting was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers, a 17-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl, both of Waldorf, were not injured. A 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, both of Waldorf, were flown by helicopter to Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., with non-life-threatening injuries. Officer C. MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On July 14 at 7:49 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 7700 block of Oliver Shop Road in La Plata for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a 1987 Volvo 740 driven by Gary Lee Wynn, Jr., 19, of St. Leonard, Md., was traveling south on Oliver Shop Road when the driver left the right shoulder of the road. The vehicle then swerved left, crossed the double yellow lines and struck a northbound 2002 Dodge Neon head on. Wynn and the driver of the Neon, Adrienne Lena Swann, 40, of Newburg, sustained incapacitating injuries and were transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening. They were both wearing seatbelts. Wynn received a citation for failing to stay right of center. Oliver Shop Road was closed for approximately 45 minutes while police investigated the crash. Officer R. Glover, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.
