Stabbing in Lexington Park

According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to the rear of a Lexington Park business which contains several apartment dwellings for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival they made contact with the victim, Dale Smith, Age 39 of Lexington Park. Smith was suffering from at least two stab wounds to the abdomen and upper chest. He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital and later flown to Washington Hospital Center.

The Suspect, Alvin Leroy Goings (Age 42 of No Fixed Address) was located unconscious, in the parking lot of the establishment. He was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of a laceration to the back side of his head and was admitted.

The information gathered and evidence observed at the scene by Deputy Michael George revealed that the victim and the suspect engaged in a verbal argument over a stolen bicycle. Suspect Goings produced a knife and threatened to kill the victim. Suspect Goings stabbed the victim twice. Victim Smith then struck Suspect Goings in the face with his fist, rendering him unconscious and causing a laceration to his head.

A State’s Attorney Office review will determine what charges will be filed in this case.
