Waldorf Traffic Stop Nets DUI & Drug Arrest


On August 28, 2006 at 8:28 p.m., Officer D. Major of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop at Merganser Court and Shearwater Drive in Waldorf on a 1997 Hyundai Tiburon for failing to yield the right of way while making a left turn. Investigation revealed the driver, Jose Porfirio Hernandez, 23, of Waldorf, was intoxicated and did not have a driver’s license. Hernandez initially provided a false name to the officer.

Hernandez was arrested and during a subsequent search, officers found a marijuana cigar, drug paraphernalia and an open container of an alcoholic beverage during a search of the vehicle. He was charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driver giving a false name, driving a motor vehicle on the highway without a license, negligent driving, failure to yield right of way on left turn and driving without a seatbelt.

Hernandez was released from the Charles County Detention Center on his personal recognizance.
