CDS Violation

An off-duty deputy, Dfc. David Denton, observed a blue Dodge truck traveling south on Route 4 at Whispering Drive straddling the southbound lanes on Sept. 3 at 2:07 a.m. Dep. Elvis A. Carter responded and also observed the vehicle driving erratically and conducted a traffic stop when the driver turned onto Broomes Island Road. The vehicle took off at a high rate of speed when the officer approached. Dep. Carter pursued and the driver of the vehicle lost control and struck a ditch, flipping the car over several times. The driver attempted to flee from the vehicle but was apprehended by Carter and asked why they fled. The youth advised that he was drunk and had stolen the truck from a relative. It was discovered that the driver, a juvenile, did not possess a driver's license and was wanted in the state of Illinois. Suspected marijuana was found in the vehicle.

The driver was transported to CMH where he was treated and released and charged on a youth report for theft of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana, among several moving violation charges.
