Juvenile Charged With Westlake High School Blaze

WALDORF, Md. - Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a 16-year-old Waldorf youth in connection with a March 5,2007 blaze that heavily damaged a storage trailer on the grounds of Westlake High School in Waldorf. The 2:32 p.m. fire in the 3300 block of Middletown Road caused an estimated $30,000 damage to the 40' x 8' trailer and athletic equipment contents.

The investigation uncovered witnesses who could identify the youth as the person responsible for igniting the blaze. A dozen firefighters from Waldorf responded to the fire and were able to control it in ten minutes without injury.

The suspect, a male student of the school, has been referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice on charges of second-degree arson. He currently remains in the custody of adult family members.
