Single Car Accident in Calvert Sends Two To Hospital


DUNKIRK, Md. (July 12, 2007) - Two men were sent to area hospitals yesterday with serious injuries after suffering a single vehicle accident in Calvert County. On July 11 at 10:03 p.m., members of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash on Md. Rt. 4 just south of Mount Harmony Road in Dunkirk.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle received serious injuries from the accident. The driver, James A. Bergman, 30 of Shady Side, was flown by Maryland State Police (MSP) helicopter to Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md. The passenger, Charles L. Poore, 34 of Annapolis, was flown by MSP helicopter to Prince Georges Hospital in Cheverly, Md.

The preliminary investigation by polioce revealed that the vehicle, a 2007 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, was traveling south-bound on Md. Rt. 4. For unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway and struck two trees.

The crash is being investigated by Cpl. T.S. Phelps of the Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
