SMCM Plans Response to Senator’s Request to Move New Boathouse

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. (Aug. 10, 2007) — Yesterday, State Senator Roy P. Dyson (D-29) sent a letter to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for St. Mary's College of Maryland, James P. Muldoon, expressing disdain for the location of the college's new boathouse. Based on complaints from constituents, Dyson requested that SMCM move the still-under-construction boathouse to a less offensive location. According to Dyson’s office, some constituents suggested that it be torn down.

Today, SMCM officials told somd.com that Muldoon was sending a written response to Dyson. Dyson’s office advised us that they have yet to receive the letter. The SMCM official we spoke with said that Muldoon’s letter would not be made available to the press. However, SMCM has plans to make Jane Margaret "Maggie" O'Brien, President, available to the media, upon request, to answer questions about the issue.
