Calvert Traffic Stop Nets Drug Arrest, Man Wanted in Three Other States

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (August 31, 2007) - A routine traffic stop in Calvert County on Wednesday led to the arrest of the driver on drug-related charges. While processing the suspect, police discovered that the Huntingtown man lied about his true identity and was wanted in three other states. Joey Lee Gaines, 26, was also wanted in Florida as a sex offender who absconded from required registration.

On Wednesday, August 29 at 1:24 p.m., DFC Joseph Windsor of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on Gaines. Gaines, who initially identified himself to police as Jeff Allan Dohm, was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

After Dohm was processed at the Calvert County Detention Center, a confirmation on Dohm's fingerprints revealed that he had provided a false identity. He was confronted and admitted that he is actually Joey Lee Gaines, of Huntingtown.

A criminal check using his true identity revealed that Gaines was wanted in Ohio, Michigan, and Florida on felony and misdemeanor charges. Gaines was wanted in Florida as a sex offender who absconded from registration. DFC Michael Tomlinson charged Gaines with "sex offender failing to register" and "giving a false name."
