Solomons Laundry Robbed, One Man Arrested

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (May 12, 2008) - The Solomons Coin Laundry, located at 13954 Solomons Island Road, was robbed by a lone gunman on Saturday shortly before 6:30 p.m. The robber, subsequently identified as Michael Duane Rogers, age 50 of Lusby, was found at his home and arrested a short time later.

An employee of the laundry told Calvert County Sheriff's Office deputies that a man displayed a shotgun and demanded money. After giving the suspect a small amount of money, the man demanded more. The employee began to yell that he was being robbed and the suspect fled the establishment.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a gray pick-up truck operated by a black male.

While traveling south on Maryland Route 4, Sgt. Kenneth Gregory observed a vehicle matching the description traveling north near Flag Pond Park. While turning around, Sergeant Gregory says he lost sight of the vehicle, however, it was located and stopped minutes later.

Sgt. Gregory determined that the vehicle was being driven by someone other than than the driver he first observed. Police say the driver revealed that the vehicle was being operated by Rogers during the time of the robbery.

Police located Rogers at his residence and transported him to Solomons Coin Laundry where he was positively identified by the victim as the person who robbed him. Rogers was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Sheriff's Office where he was charged with Armed Robbery, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Theft Under $100.00 and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure.

Rogers was being held at the Calvert County Detention Center without bond.
