St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (July 25, 2008) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department today released the following incident and arrest reports.

INFANT DEATH: On July 24 at approximately 1730 hours, police responded to Dockser Drive in Golden Beach for a reported 2 year-old child not breathing. Preliminary investigation conducted by BCI detectives revealed that the child was left unattended in the back yard at the babysitter's residence. The child was found laying face down in the back yard pool. CPR was administered on the child who was subsequently flown to Children's Hospital in Washington, DC where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1857 hours. BCI detectives are continuing their investigation and the case will be reviewed by the State's Attorney's Office.

ASSAULT FIRST DEGREE: On July 24 at 3:55 p.m. Dfc. Michael Worrey responded to a residence on Sue Dr. in Lexington Park for the report of an assault involving knives. Investigation by Dfc. Worrey revealed the victim went to visit a friend on Sue Drive with her infant and six year-old child when she was confronted by Bobbie Lee Coontz, a white male, age 23, of Lexington Park. Coontz allegedly held a knife to the throat of the victim while she was seated in the vehicle and threatened to kill her in the presence of her children. Suspect Crystal Coontz, a white female, age 18, of Lexington Park began running around the victims vehicle, displaying a butcher's-type knife, threatening to kill the victim. Both knives were recovered from the scene by Dfc. Worrey. During the investigation Crystal Coontz continued to act in a disorderly manner and was placed under arrest. Both suspects were transported to the Detention Center where Bobbie Coontz was charged with assault first degree. Crystal Coontz was charged with assault first degree and disorderly conduct. Both were incarcerated pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
