St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Oct. 21, 2008) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office recently released the following incident and arrest reports.

STRONG ARM ROBBERY: On October 14 at approximately 3:45 p.m., a 16 year-old male was outside of his residence on Waverly Court in Hollywood and saw a white van with a ladder rack on the roadway adjacent to his driveway. The victim walked to the end of his driveway and was confronted by a hispanic male in his mid 20's, approximately 5'11" and 200 lbs. The suspect assaulted the victim and stole the victim's property, including US currency. He then fled the area in the white van. BCI detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Solvers at (301) 475-3333. You don't have to give your name and maybe eligible for a cash reward.

FATAL ACCIDENT: On October 7 at approximately 5:49 a.m., patrol officers responded to the area of Wynne Road and Bean Road for the report of a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival deputies observed a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck sitting off the roadway which appeared to have been there for several hours. It was determined that the operator of the truck, who had been partially ejected, was deceased. The Sheriff's Office Collision Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation. The operator truck was identified as David Scott Bennett, 49, of Ridge. The truck had been traveling eastbound on Wynne Road just past Bean Road when it crossed the center line and onto the westbound shoulder. The operator of the vehicle over corrected bringing the vehicle back across the roadway where it exited the eastbound side of the road and struck a culvert, at which time the truck went airborne. The unrestrained operator of the vehicle was partially ejected and died as a result of injuries sustained. At this time speed and alcohol are being considered as contributing factors in the cause of the crash.
