St. Mary's County Sheriff's Reports


LEONARDTOWN, Md. (Oct. 27, 2009) - The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE ARREST: On October 25, Dep. Jean Vezzosi was responding to a disturbance in the Patuxent Homes neighborhood when he stopped a vehicle, a 2003 Honda, observed leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Deputy Vezzosi identified the operator who was a 17-year-old juvenile male. While speaking with the boy, Deputy Vezzosi observed a quantity of suspected marijuana and a smoking device in plain view. The teen, from Lexington Park, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CR- 5-601), possession of drug paraphernalia (CR 5-619) and released to the custody of his parent.

PROTECTIVE ORDER VIOLATION: On October 24, Cpl. David Corcoran investigated a reported protective order violation. The victim had received a protective order baring the suspect, Robert Taylor, 20, of Lexington Park, from contacting or attempting to contact the victim except for facilitating child visitation. Cpl. Corcoran's investigation determined Mr. Taylor violated the conditions of the order by contacting the victim in violation of the order. Robert Taylor was arrested and charged with failing to comply with an order of the court (FL 4-509) and telephone misuse (CR 3-804). Taylor was released to the custody of the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

ASSAULT: On Oct. 26 at about 0003 hours, Cpl. Handy encountered Gary V. Shubrooks, Jr., 18, of Lexington Park, on Wasp Drive. Deputy Chimko-Fahey had a criminal summons for Shubrooks. Dep. Chimko-Fahey responded and began to serve Shubrooks the summons. Shubrooks grabbed the summons and attempted to tear it up. Cpl. Handy approached Shubrooks to prevent the destruction of the summons and was pushed in the chest. Shubrooks was charged with assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. Mr Shubrooks was released to the custody of the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending a hearing before the District Court Commissioner.
