Charles County Students Selected to Participate in All State Groups


LA PLATA, Md. (Jan. 22, 2009)—Fifteen Charles County Public Schools students were recently selected to participate in statewide fine arts events including the Maryland Junior All State Band, Chorus and Orchestra, and Senior All State Band, Chorus, Mixed Chorus and Orchestra.

The following students were selected for the Junior All State Band:

-- Christopher Hartline, ninth-grade student, North Point High School, bassoon; and
-- Kendall McMillen, ninth-grade student, North Point, flute.

The following students were selected for the Junior All State Chorus:

-- Stephen Hilson, ninth-grade student, Maurice J. McDonough High School;
-- Matthew Sallee, ninth-grade student, McDonough; and
-- Patrick Wathen, seventh-grade student, Piccowaxen Middle School.

The following students were selected to participate in the Senior All State Band:

-- Ross Gardiner, tenth-grade student, McDonough, clarinet;
-- Kevin Shin, tenth-grade student, McDonough, trumpet; and
-- Benjamin Stern, senior, North Point, trumpet.

The following students were selected to participate in the Senior All State Mixed Chorus:

-- Robert Balint, tenth-grade student, McDonough;
-- Daniel Gray, junior, McDonough;
-- Preston Luckett, senior, North Point; and
-- Sean Link, senior, McDonough.

Additionally, Alexis Furgione, a junior at McDonough, was chosen as a member of the Senior All State Chorus; Nathaniel Taylor, a junior at North Point, was chosen as a member of the Senior All State Orchestra for the cello; and Kirbie Gowen, a junior at Thomas Stone High School, was chosen as a member of the Senior All State Women's Chorus.

Students in seventh, eighth and ninth grade who attend any independent, parochial or public school in Maryland are eligible to audition for and participate in the Junior All State Band, Chorus or Orchestra. Students in tenth through twelfth grade are eligible to audition for the All State Jazz Band, and the Senior All State Band, Chorus and Orchestra.
