Lusby Man Arrested in Connection with Robbery of Man on Beer Run

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. (April 28, 2009)—Kavan James Wheeler, age 20, of Lusby, was arrested on Sunday and charged with false imprisonment and robbery. Police say Wheeler picked up a hitchhiker, Douglas Dixon, age 23, of Prince Frederick, earlier that day and robbed him of his cash.

Dixon told police he was on his way to pick up some beer when Wheeler stopped and picked him up. Along the way Wheeler demanded Dixon hand over all his cash or he would "stab" him, according to police. After receiving the money, Dixon was put out of the vehicle on Broome's Island Rd. in Port Republic.

Police broadcast a look out for Wheeler's vehicle, which was subsequently stopped on the St. Mary's County side of the Thomas Johnson Bridge after traveling through a check point. Wheeler was arrested and incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
