Charles High Schools Compete in Country Drill Classic


LA PLATA, Md. (March 16, 2010)—JROTC students from Charles County’s six public high schools competed in the annual Charles County Drill Classic on Saturday, March 27 at Theodore G. Davis Middle School.

Teams were judged in eight different events, or skill areas, and three overall champions were chosen based on team placement in each event.

The overall champions were Henry E. Lackey High School, first place with 1,579 points; North Point High School, second place with 1,131 points; and Maurice J. McDonough High School, third place with 956 points. Skill areas that teams were judged in include inspection, first-year color guard, regulation color guard, first-year unarmed regulation, unarmed regulation, armed regulation, armed exhibition, and unarmed exhibition.

Winners in the inspection event were McDonough, first place; Lackey, second place; and La Plata High School, third place.

Winners in the first-year color guard event were Lackey, first place; McDonough, second place; and La Plata, third place.

Winners in the regulation color guard event were La Plata, first place; Westlake High School, second place; and Lackey, third place.

Winners in the first-year unarmed regulation event were Lackey, first place; North Point, second place; and McDonough, third place.

Winners in the unarmed regulation event were Westlake, first place; Lackey, second place; and La Plata, third place.

Winners in the armed regulation event were Lackey, first place; McDonough, second place; North Point, third place.

Winners in the unarmed exhibition event were Lackey, first place; and North Point, second place.

Winner in the armed exhibition event was Lackey, first place.
