G.W. Carver Elementary to Participate in Fresh Fruits, Vegetable Program

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (June 22, 2010) - The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) recently announced the allocation of $25,550 to George Washington Carver Elementary School, in St. Mary's County, to participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) during the 2010-2011 school year.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federally assisted program that provides free fresh fruits and vegetables to students during the school day. The goal of FFVP is to improve the overall diet of children and create healthier eating habits to impact their present and future health. FFVP will help schools create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices, expanding the variety of fruits and vegetables children are aware of, and increasing children's fruit and vegetable consumption.
