Man Charged with Arson in Bryantown Fire


CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (March 23, 2011) — The investigation into a March 21st fire involving a vacant manufactured home has led to the arrest of 58-year-old George William Thomas.

The 12:04 p.m. fire at 13240 Langley Road in Bryantown took approximately ten minutes to control and caused an estimated $1,500 dollars in damage. Deputy State Fire Marshals determined the cause of the fire to be arson.

Thomas was arrested at his residence without incident. He has been charged with 2nd Degree Arson and Malicious Destruction of Property. If convicted of the charges, Thomas faces 23 years in prison and $32,500.00 in fines or both.

Thomas has been transported to the Charles County Detention Center where he is waiting on an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
