Funya Named Charter School Administrator of the Year

LEONARDTOWN, Md. (April 13, 2011) — Ms. Angela Funya, education director of the Chesapeake Public Charter School, has been named Charter School Administrator of the Year by the Maryland Charter School Network (MCSN).

The Charter School Administrator of the Year Award is supported and awarded annually by the MCSN, a Baltimore based non-profit organization that supports the Maryland charter school community. This award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments made by an individual who works in a Maryland charter school.

According to the MCSN, Ms. Funya was selected as this year's honoree because of her dedication to and positive impact on the Chesapeake Public Charter School (CPCS) community. In 2003, she began her work with the CPCS as one of its founding members, and four years later, she led the school to its opening. In 2008, Ms. Funya was named education director of the school. She continues to ensure that the CPCS remains true to its charter, and promotes a school climate of compassion and respect.

"Angela is an exemplary administrator," said Dr. Michael J. Martirano, superintendent of schools. "She has been a consistent and strong advocate and leader during the conceptualization, creation, and implementation of our very successful public charter school in St. Mary's County. Angela is very deserving of this award."

The award was presented to Ms. Funya on April 8 during the MCSN conference in Baltimore.
