McDonough Student Selected for STEM College Program


LA PLATA, Md. (May 2, 2011) — Quentin Sanders, a senior at Maurice J. McDonough High School, was recently selected to join the Meyerhoff Scholars Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. The Meyerhoff Scholars Program prepares students to pursue advanced degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related fields.

Sanders will also receive a $20,000 scholarship and plans to pursue a major in mechanical engineering. Students are nominated for the program at the school level and undergo a rigorous selection process. Applicants are evaluated on their academic performance, standardized test scores, letters of recommendation and proof of a demonstrated commitment to their community.
