Charles County Sheriff's Reports


LA PLATA, Md. (June 28, 2011)—The Charles County Sheriff's Office today released the following incident and arrest reports.

OFFICERS ARREST SUSPECT IN BREAK-IN OF HOUSE UNDER CONSTRUCTION: On June 28 at 12:11 a.m., officers responded to the 3400 block of Amberton Court for the report of a suspicious male who was walking in and out of homes under construction. When officers arrived, they spotted the man near his truck. Officers approached and observed several power cutting tools inside the vehicle. The man said he broke into the home to use the bathroom however there was an outdoor bathroom directly in front of the house. Leonard Linkous, 49, of Lothian, was arrested and charged with burglary.

PATROL OFFICERS APPREHEND THEFT SUSEPCT: On June 24 at 10:34 p.m., officers received a call for a theft in progress at Mr. Tire in the 7000 block of Matthews Road in Bryans Road. When officers arrived, they observed Maurice Paul Burnette, 61, of Accokeek, placing brake rotors in the bed of his truck. He also had other scrap metals items in his vehicle that apparently had been stolen. Burnette was arrested and charged with theft. Officer D. Graham is investigating.

THEFT FROM AUTO: On June 27 at 3:39 a.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of Tawney Drive in Waldorf for the report of a suspicious male looking inside cars. Officers canvassed the area but the suspect was gone. Officers discovered the suspect opened the car doors of several unlocked vehicles and stole a purse from the trunk of one of the cars that had been left open. Officer W. Halt is investigating.

CITIZEN ROBBERY: On June 27 at 1:15 a.m., an unknown suspect approached two people who were sitting in a car in the 5000 block of Damselfish Court in Waldorf. The suspect asked for a cigarette and then pointed a handgun at one of the car's occupants and demanded the victim's purse. The victim complied and the suspect fled with an accomplice who was standing nearby. Officer J. Williams is investigating.

WHEEL THEFT: On June 26 between midnight and 9:30 a.m., unknown suspects stole the wheels off of a car that was parked in the 3100 block of Mattawoman Beantown Road in Waldorf. Officer D. Brady is investigating.

BURGLARY: On June 25 between 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., an unknown suspect broke into a house in the 4100 block of Bluebird Drive in Waldorf and stole electronics. Officers canvassed the area and processed the scene for evidence. Officer R. Cadrette is investigating.

ATV STOLEN: On June 25, during the overnight hours, a Polaris ATV was stolen from a shed in the 14900 block of Popular Hill Road in Waldorf. Officer J. Foster is investigating.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY REPORTED: On June 24 at 11:30 p.m., the victim and an acquaintance were walking near Blackfoot Street and Bucknell Road in Waldorf when a group of males approached. One of the males struck the victim and stole her purse. Officers canvassed the area and are working on leads they developed. Officer F. Davis is investigating.

MAN CHARGED IN STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: On June 24 at 2:47 a.m., Earnest Eugene Johnson, 27, of Capitol Heights, approached the clerk of a convenience store in the 600 block of Charles Street and acted as if he was going to purchase a drink. When the clerk rang up the merchandise, Johnson walked behind the counter and demanded the clerk open the drawer. The clerk complied and Johnson grabbed the money and fled. Moments later, Johnson returned, gave the money back to he clerk and told him to forget the incident happened. Johnson then sat outside on a bench and waited for police to respond. Johnson was arrested and charged with robbery and theft.
