Calvert Educators Reach Tentative Agreement on Employment Contract

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md.—The Calvert County Board of Education and Calvert Education Association today announced that they have reached a tentative agreement on revisions to the teacher’s employment contract.

While the current three-year contract remains in effect through June 30, 2013, compensation and salary were negotiable for the final year of the contract. In addition, each party had the opportunity to reopen up to two other articles during this year’s negotiations.

The tentative agreement reached on June 25 includes no cost of living adjustment or step increases for this coming year.

Changes in the contract include: additional compensation (during 2012-2013 only) for teachers who participate in one extra day of professional development work related to the transition to the Common Core State Standards and the new Teacher Evaluation System; a wellness incentive program which will compensate teachers when they use 3 or fewer sick days during the year; and opportunities for online learning resulting in additional compensation or personal leave.

Both the teachers and the Board of Education must now ratify the contract addendum.
