Government Schedule Changes for Labor Day Holiday


CALIFORNIA, Md.—The following state and local government schedule changes will be implemented for the coming Labor Day weekend. The official Labor Day holiday will be celebrated on Monday, September 3.

Calvert County

All Calvert County government offices will be closed Monday, September 3.

The Calvert Pines, Southern Pines and North Beach senior centers will be closed September 3. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered to clients Monday.

Calvert Library locations will be closed on Saturday, September 1 and Monday, September 3.

There will be no public transportation services September 3. Regular schedules will resume on Tuesday, September 4.

The Appeal Landfill and customer convenience center locations will be closed September 3.

Charles County

The offices of Charles County Government, the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville, the Charles County Sanitary Landfill, Recycling Center, and Composting Facility off Billingsley Road in Waldorf, and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah will be closed on Monday, September 3.

Curbside recycling will be pushed one day ahead for the first part of the week. Monday pickups will take place on Tuesday and Tuesday pickups on Wednesday. There are no changes to Thursday and Friday routes.

There will be no VanGO service operated on Labor Day, Monday, September 3.

The Crain Memorial Welcome Center will be open for normal business hours on Monday, September 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Welcome Center is located at 12480 Crain Highway in Newburg.

The following schedule changes and closures will also be in effect:

-- Community Centers, Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center, and Port Tobacco Recreation Center will be closed.

-- All park facilities will be open for normal operating hours.

St. Mary's County

County Government Offices will be closed on Monday, September 3. Offices will reopen on Tuesday, September 4.

The St. Andrews Landfill and six Convenience Centers and the St. Mary's Transit System (STS) will not operate on September 3. The Landfill, Convenience Centers, and STS will be open for normal business hours prior to and after the observed holiday.

All Senior Activity Centers and the three St. Mary's County Libraries will also be closed and there will also be no Meals on Wheels delivery.

College of Southern Maryland (CSM)

CSM will be closed Saturday, September 1 through Monday, September 3. Classes for the Fall 2012 session will commence on Tuesday, September 4.

District & Circuit Courts

The District and Circuit Courts in all counties in Maryland will be closed on Monday, September 3.

Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA)

The MVA will close its full-service and express offices on Saturday, September 1 and Monday, September 3. All Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP) stations will also close on both days. In addition, all MVA and VEIP offices will be closed on Friday, August 31 in accordance with the State Service Reduction Plan.

Customers are encouraged to go on-line to complete their MVA transaction. Many MVA transactions can be completed via the Internet (http://www.mva.maryland.gov/) through the MVA’s eMVA initiative - including payments for vehicle registration. eMVA makes a variety of routine transactions available electronically and they can be completed without the need to stand in line at an MVA office.
