Virginia Man Dies in Crash in Solomons

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md.—Maryland State Police in Calvert County report that a Virginia man died in a 3 vehicle crash on Tuesday evening as the result of an unsuccessful lane change. The accident occurred at approximately 5:41 p.m. on Route 4, south of the Naval Recreation Center in Solomons.

Troopers arrived on the scene and began an investigation which revealed the following: A black 2008 Honda Civic, driven by Zenaida Suarez Baquiran, 55 of Glen Allen, Va., was traveling south on Route 4 in lane 2 (slow lane). Baquiran changed lanes into lane 1 and the rear of the Honda struck the front of a red 2003 Ford Mustang, driven by Miguel Angel Salazar Diaz, 28 of Lexington Park. The Honda then crossed the median and traveled into the northbound lanes of Route 4, striking a blue 1996 Ford F250, operated by Charles Paul Hester, 51 of Lusby.

Baquiran was pronounced dead at the scene. Hester was transported to Prince George's Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The police investigation is continuing, however alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash.

The Maryland State Police was assisted on the scene by the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Solomons Volunteer Fire Department, Calvert County Sheriff's Office, and the State Highway Administration.
