La Plata Man Dies After Fall from Tree Stand


CALIFORNIA, Md.—The Maryland Natural Resource Police are investigating a hunting accident in Calvert County that claimed the life of a La Plata man, Albert Attanacio Castro, age 62. The accident occurred on the morning of Saturday, October 13. NRP was notified of the accident later in the afternoon.

Investigators determined that Castro fell approximately 21 feet while climbing into his lock-on tree stand. The tree stand was locked on the tree with screw in steps on Mr. Castro’s property near Dentsville. Mr. Castro was suffering from some medical issues which could have contributed to his death. His body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
