SUV Hits School Bus Head-on in Waldorf; Minor Injuries Reported


LA PLATA, Md. (Sept. 25, 2013)—On Wednesday at 7:50 a.m., the driver of a Cadillac Escalade was traveling in the 2400 block of Davis Road in Waldorf when she struck a curb, lost control of her vehicle and struck a school bus head on. The bus was headed to North Point High School and had 36 students and a driver on board. No one on the bus had serious injuries.

One student was released to her parents on the scene and the rest of the students were transported to Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata; a majority of the students were transported via a secondary bus and were treated and released. The remaining students and bus driver were taken by ambulance and treated for minor injuries and released.

The driver of the SUV, 47, of Washington, D.C., was flown to a hospital with injuries that were determined to be non life-threatening. The CCSO Traffic Operations Unit is continuing the investigation and at this point, the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
